Where is Dr. C?
Fall, 2008
In the headache biz, fall means two important meetings: The Fall Consortium of the Headache Cooperative of the Pacific in San Francisco, and the Fall Meeting of the American Headache Society in Scottsdale. Dr. C is an invited lecturer at both events. At the Scottsdale meeting he is directing a course on complementary and alternative medicine in headache, in addition to presenting his lecture.
Fall is also a hectic time for clinical care. As we enter the holiday season, it seems that the combination of stress and changes in our patterns of sleep, exercise and eating can spin headaches out of control. Accordingly, Dr. C is spending a lot of time in California at the Keeler Center for the Study of Headache. This is the brick and mortar clinic where patients can come for hands-on care. A major contribution has allowed the clinic to purchase all new, state of the art biofeedback equipment and additional training for staff.
And finally, Dr. C is hard at work lecturing, writing and doing research with his co-investigator, Michael Harrington, MD. Going through the literature every month and translating the most important and exciting news for the Migrablog is tremendously time-consuming. But Dr. C. insists “the more you know about headaches, the better able are you to manage them effectively. You just never know when that one key piece of information will change your life.”
In January, the Keeler Center will host the Headache Cooperative’s annual winter meeting, a high level conference for headache specialists from around the world. This year, James Lance, MD, one of the giants of headache research will travel from Australia to present the keynote lecture. Dr. C, along with other headache experts will be presenting at this meeting and discussing the latest research in headache medicine.
